How to keep luxury vinyl flooring clean
Low maintenance is one of the advantages of luxury vinyl plank or tile floors, two forms of luxury vinyl. That doesn't translate to "no maintenance," however.
It's like anything else. The better you take care of it, the longer it will last, which can be 25 to 30 years for this product.
Why sweeping is so necessary
Dirt and soil can be sharp. It can scratch or cause it to embed. Vinyl plank, also called LVP flooring, often has textures and finishes that make them more realistic and stylish. So does luxury vinyl tile.
It also makes it easier for dirt to get into the grooves. It gets ground in, referred to as pitting.
The best way to avoid it is to sweep several times a week or, preferably, daily. Get into corners and under cabinets, wherever dirt hides.
Then vacuum once a week. It'll pick up crumbs and other substances that I missed. Wipe spills immediately, so they don't set.
Mop periodically
Periodic mopping will keep your vinyl plank or LVT flooring in top shape.
Generally, mop kitchen floors every other week. Bathroom floors get mopped once a week.
That rule may change depending on whether you have more or less foot traffic.
Removing tough dirt and stains
For pitted floors: Drip a manufacturer-approved multi-purpose cleaner onto a pitted area and let it sit for a few minutes. Then wipe with a mop or cloth. Repeat as needed on your LVP or LVT floors.
Most other stains can be removed with a baking soda/water paste, a little rubbing alcohol, or nail polish remover. But, again, consult the warranty or flooring professional.
